Part of Ironworks Big Draw
The Alex Pub
Thu 24 Oct 6.30 – 8pm
Drawing the sounds of The Ironworks site – transmitted through Silent Disco headsets.
Drop into The Alex to put on a pair of headphones, pick up a pencil and let your mark-making be inspired by sounds of The Ironworks played through headsets. The recordings soundscape the history of the site – including micro recordings of insects and wildlife, alongside the industrial crashing of the Headly Ironworks machines and bin day at the Depot. Using the headphones means you can drop in and start at any point – joining in with large scale abstract drawings in the Community Room, or taking a sheet of paper to your table to listen and draw whilst supping your pint.
How do you express sound? With a shape, a mark, a colour?
The image above is a painting by the artist Kandinsky. He is quoted as describing a performance of Wagner’s opera as: “I saw all my colours in spirit, before my eyes. Wild, almost crazy lines were sketched in front of me.”
So come and join Hilary Cox Condron for this Silent Sound Drawing event and discover your inner Kandinsky.
The event is free and suitable for ages 16+
