Cambridge Festival of Ideas – Places in Transition

The resonance or identity of a specific location in the process of change is examined through presentations by artists whose practices range from installation to text and video-based works. Identity and place-shaping through site-specific artwork will be explored in a panel discussion.
Chaired by Dr. Harriet Riches, Head of the Art School at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), speakers include Emma Smith and Jo Chapman – artist-in-residence for the forthcoming Cromwell Road development and artist commissioned for Ironworks respectively – and Veronique Chance, artist and lecturer at ARU.

After the talk, you are invited to take part in a Big Draw walking tour.
‘Places in Transition Walk’ will take place between 1.30-4.00pm – meeting point LAB 107 at ARU
Walk with Ironworks Artist-in-Residence, Hilary Cox Condron, to explore the Mill Road area – stopping at key locations to draw.
Inspired by the Places in Transition talk, change, memory and identity will be explored. The history, sights, smells, tastes and sounds of these familiar streets being examined. Hilary will guide participants as they creatively map and record the route.
The tour will finish at Ironworks with a cup of herbal tea especially prepared by herbalist Vanessa Neville.
